イフタールは、イスラーム世界では、ラマダーン月の断食を解く食事を意味します。日の出から日没まで断食するイスラーム教徒にとって、一日の任務終了の達成感と喜びが得られるひとときでもあるとされています。

　イスラーム文化では、断食をするかしないかを問わず、その喜びの分かち合いが重んじられています。そのため、イスラーム世界各地でラマダーン月中、お互いに喜び合うために、毎晩のように食事会が開かれます。イスラーム教徒のみならず、他の宗教の信者もそのイベントに招待されます。

Iftar is the meal served at sunset when Muslims break the daily fast during the holy month of Ramadan. Ramadan occurs in the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar when a Muslim observes fasting every day from dawn to sunset. Iftar is also a social event, involving family and community, inviting each other to share the food and blessings of the month together. The invitations are not restricted to Muslims only; adherents of other beliefs are also invited to join.
In order to share Muslim Students' blessings and joy with many Doshisha students; and to celebrate multiculturalism in promoting a shared understanding of one another, we are going to hold an "Iftar Party" this year as well where various halal food will be served from different regions & countries.
For those interested in cultural exchange, you are most welcome.
